Amy Bass Messersmith is a senior corporate executive with over 25 years of experience driving enterprise human capital strategy, transformational change and operational excellence within private and publicly traded companies. Amy's career spans a variety of industries and reflects a demonstrated track record in leading and implementing large scale strategic and cultural transformations, compliance and ethics programs, global risk assessments, optimization of complex operational processes, company-wide communication campaigns, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion programs and a strategic HR lens. Amy brings experience through her work with corporate boards and is immediately qualified to serve on compensation, audit, and nom/gov committees due to her expertise in Executive Compensation, Human Capital/CEO & Talent Succession, Compliance/Risk Management, and ESG/DEI.
Amy currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer of Builders FirstSource, a publicly traded building products & distribution company with approx. $20B in revenue and 30,000 team members across the United States. She is responsible for leading Builders' human resources and corporate social responsibility strategies while driving organizational effectiveness and transformational change to create a high-performance, people-first business culture. As a key member of the executive leadership team, Amy attends all company committee and board meetings and engages frequently with board directors. Amy has led several enterprise-wide transformation initiatives focused on enabling the company’s business model to succeed by connecting the people strategy directly to the business strategy as an enabler of profitable outcomes and driving discretionary effort and alignment throughout all levels of the organization, resulting in enhanced team member engagement. Amy is an integral part of ongoing change leadership and transformation initiatives related to technology, workforce readiness and skilling, and M&A selection / integration.
Prior to joining Builders FirstSource, Amy served in a variety of executive leadership leadership roles within public and private companies including: US Anesthesia Partners, TDIndustries, Pizza Hut / Yum! Brands, Frito-Lay & PepsiCo. Having held varying and complex roles across a variety of industries, in both public and private organizations of all sizes, my has extensive depth and expertise in 'what great looks like". Never taking a one size fits all approach, Amy has leveraged her vast experience and expertise to enhance and elevate well-performing human capital strategies, and has also built or rehabilitated human capital functions from the ground up, ensuring optimal effectiveness and relevancy for the specific needs of the business. Amy leads with a business mindset and is a valued strategic thinker who also brings a depth of expertise in how how the work is done.
Amy has held various board positions for academic, non-profit & community organizations. A few examples include: The Family Place (Human Capital Committee Chair), Uplift Education (Human Capital & Compensation Committee Chair), Dallas CHRO Governing Body (Board Member), Southern Methodist University Human Resources Roundtable (Board Member), Chi Omega Womens Fraternity of Collin County (Board Member & Vice Chair).
